Incomes other than tax-free incomes of NRIs are generally taxed at par with Resident Indians. However NRIs have an option to be taxed at concessional flat rate of 20% as regards investment income and flat rate of 10% as regards long term capital gains arising out of specified assets. Under flat rate scheme, tax is charged without allowing any deductions or basic exemptions provided investments are made from NR(E), FCNR(B) or inward forex remittance.
