Dear Shri Navtej Sarna ,
Good wishes and compliments for representing India in United States of America under the dynamic leadership of Shri Narendrabhai Modi.
Sir, I am prompted to write this email to draw Your attention to a serious mistake in the Press Release of 16th November 2017 posted on Indian Embassy website as regards Aadhaar Enrolment to NRIs and PIOs.
The opening para on website of Indian Embassy states that
" NRIs with an Indian address can obtain Aadhaar Card when they visit India."
https://www.indianembassy.org/informations.php?id=957
This is incorrect as section 3(1) of Aadhaar Act 2016 clearly states that " Every Resident is entitled to obtain Aadhaar Number.........." which clearly indicates that only Residents in India can apply for and avail Aadhar card and the Rules clearly state that an NRI cannot apply for nor avail Aadhar card. This matter is once again clarified by Chief Executive Officer of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Dr. Ajay Pandey in Circular dated 15th November 2017 which is attached herewith.
I suggest that You may examine the facts and review the matter and make appropriate changes ideally removing the paragraphs.
Incidentally , I am a Chartered Accountant providing advisory services to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and returning NRIs in the matters pertaining to Foreign Exchange Laws, Tax Laws, Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) and Invesments and creator of NRI related popular websites : www.nribanks.com the only website displaying monthly updated interest rates of almost all banks in India offered to NRIs ; www.femaonline.com an edited and updated version of Foreign Exchange Management Act 1999 and Regulations thereunder as also Tax Laws pertaining to NRIs .
In case there are any issues pertaining to NRIs it will be my pleasure to provide guidance and assistance to the best of my knowledge and ability.
Wishing in advance a great wonderful & joyous Christmas to You and Family.
Sincerely ,
RAJESH H DHRUVA
Chief Executive
